SCHROON LAKE MARINA STAFFERS ARE ALL ADVENTUROUS AND WATER LOVING BOAT ENTHUSIASTS—JUST LIKE OUR CUSTOMERS—AND THAT’S JUST PART OF THE REASON WHY THE PRO SHOP AT THE MARINA IS CALLED HYDROTHERAPY.
Wakeboarding is an extremely popular watersport that was first developed by surfers in Australia and New Zealand back in the 1980s. Surfers would get towed out behind boats to find the best waves, and eventually they realized that the ride itself could be just as fun as the surfing, and from that was born the sport of wakeboarding.
Today’s wakeboarding is a cross between water skiing and snowboarding, where the border is towed behind a boat to surf the wake while riding a board similar to a snowboard. At Schroon Lake Marina, we carry all the best and most popular wakeboarding equipment on the market, because we know that if you’re going to participate in a watersport like this, you’ll have a much
better time if you’re using the right gear.
The Equipment Involved
Since wakeboarding is so similar to snowboarding, some of the equipment is quite similar as well. For one, you have the board that allows the rider to stay afloat on top of the water. You also have similar boots and bindings that attach the rider to the board and protect the feet and ankles. But because wakeboarders rely on the constant wake from a boat, they also need a tow rope that carries them along in the boat’s wake, which they surf like water skiers.
Schroon Lake Marina’s pro shop, Hydrotherapy, carries only the best wakeboards and equipment in the industry, and those are the products made by Liquid Force. The owners of Liquid Force were pioneers in the sport of wakeboarding, and as such, they know the sport better than anyone in the industry, and are constantly incorporating the latest technologies and developments into their equipment. The Hydrotherapy Pro Shop carries all manner of Liquid Force wakeboarding equipment and gear, including:
- Boards
- Boots and bindings
- Board shorts
- Vests that are designed for comfort as much as safety
- Handles and ropes
- Hats and towels
- Tubes and inflatables
Beginner Equipment and Help
For people who are just starting out in the sport, Schroon Lake Marina doesn’t just carry top-shelf, expert level equipment: we also have beginner board and binding packages available for wakeboarders who are still getting their legs. And on top of wakeboarding equipment, we also have other Liquid Force sporting gear available as well, such as wakeskates and wakesurfers, both of which offer different variations on the sport of wakeboarding.
Our friendly and knowledgeable staff—who happened to know and love watersports of all kinds themselves—is there to help you out, answer questions, and walk you through the equipment step by step. It can be intimidating getting into a new sport, especially if you don’t know where to start, but the Hydrotherapy staff is there to lend a hand and point you in the right direction: out onto the water.
Wakeboard and Waterski School Lessons
If you’re looking to see a live lesson, get tips about the sport, or want to get some helpful guidance, be sure to check out Chestertown’s Inverted Wakeboard and Waterski School on Loon Lake. They offer hourly lessons for beginner through advanced water skiers and wakeboarders, and can even show you the latest and greatest products on the market.
Wakeboarding is an incredible sport, and while it requires some skill and coordination, getting to practice is always a blast. At Schroon Lake Marina, we understand that the right or wrong equipment can make or break a sport, and wakeboarding is no exception.
That’s why we carry only the newest technologies, latest models, and best equipment and gear from Liquid Force, and why our staff is trained and experienced enough to guide you in the right direction when you’re making a new equipment purchase.
